Alweer een paar jaar geleden haakte ik een grannysquaredeken met merinowol. Het was al mijn derde deken, en daarom wilde ik er eentje maken die ook echt lang mooi blijft.
Acrylgaren is fijn om mee te haken, maar het wordt in het gebruik op een gegeven moment toch een beetje grauw en pluizig.
Already a few years ago I crocheted a granny square blanket with merino wool.
It was my third blanket, so I wanted to make one that stays beautiful for a long time.
Acrylic yarn is nice to work with, but after a while it does become grey and frizzy.
Merinowol is zeker niet goedkoop, maar het haakt heerlijk, en het blijft mooi, zelfs na een paar keer wassen (tot nu toe).
Op Instagram krijg ik regelmatig de vraag of ik een patroon van dit vierkantje heb.
Ik heb het daar een keertje uitgeschreven, maar dat is lastig terug te vinden, vandaar hier een herhaling. Onder de foto's vind je het haakschema.
Merino wool is not cheap, but it's really soft and perfect for crocheting and knitting, and it stays pretty, even after washing a couple of times (up till now that is).
On Instagram I get asked frequently if I have a pattern of this square.
It's written down under one of my pictures, but it's a bit hard to find, so I'll repeat it here. Underneath the pictures you can find the diagram.
Je begint met een ketting van 4 lossen die je sluit met een hv.
You start with a loop of 4 chains and a slip stitch in the first chain.
1e toer: Haak in de cirkel, 3 l (= 1e stokje + een l), en dan nog 11 keer een stokje gevolgd door een losse, hecht af (12).
Round 1, American terms: Crochet in the cirkel, chain 3 (= 1st double crochet and a chain), and then another 11 times a double crochets followed by a chain. Finish off (12).
2e toer: Hecht een nieuwe kleur aan.
Haak 2 lossen en een stokje in een opening van de vorige toer, dan 11x 2 stokjes in de openingen tussen de stokjes van de vorige toer, dit keer zonder losse ertussen. Hecht af (24).
Round 2: Attach a new colour.
Chain 2 + a double crochet in one of the openings of the previous round, followed by 11 times 2 double crochets in the openings of the previos round, but this time without a chain in between. Finish off (24).
3e toer: Hecht een nieuwe kleur aan. Haak tussen elk stokjescluster van de vorige toer steeds 3 stokjes, nu wel weer gevolgd door een losse (1e = 2 lossen), tot je rond bent. Hecht af (36).
Round 3: Attach a new colour.
In between every cluster of the previous round you crochet 3 double crochets, this time followed by a chain (first double crochet = 2 chains). Finish off (36).
4e toer: Hecht de hoofdkleur aan (ik koos wit voor mijn deken, en lichtgeel voor het voorbeeld).
Haak **(2 dubbele stokjes, 1 stokje) ido*, 1 losse, (1 stokje, 2 halve stokjes) ido, 1 losse, (2 halve stokjes, 1 stokje) ido, (1 stokje, 2 dubbele stokjes) ido, 3 lossen**
*ido = in de opening
Oja, en het 1e dubbele stokje bestaat natuurlijk uit 3 lossen!
Round 4: Attach the main colour (for my blanket I chose white, and for the example light yellow).
Crochet **(2 triple crochets, 1 double crochet) ito*, 1 chain, (1 double crochet, 2 half double crochets) ito, 1 chain, (2 half double crochets, 1 double crochet) ito, (1 double crochet, 2 triple crochets) ito, 3 chains**
*ito = in the opening
Oh, and the first double crochet consists of 3 chains of course!
De andere drie zijden doe je weer wat er tussen **...** staat, maar je begint in dezelfde steek als waar je eindigde met de eerste zijde (bij het pijltje). Zo creëer je de hoeken.
For the next three sides you repeat **...**, but you start in the same stich as where you ended the first side (at the arrow ). This way you create corners.
Ik haakte de vierkantjes aan elkaar met een join-as-you go methode, ik zal er nog wel eens een tutorial aan wijden. Hier vind je eventueel een manier die er een beetje op lijkt:

Oké, en dan nu hoe je de mini-circle-square maakt, die ik gebruikte in de tutorial over de Train Track Join.
Okay, and now how to make the mini circle square that I used for the tutorial about the Train Track Join.
Begin met een magische ring. Haak 2 lossen (= 1e stokje),
Haak nog 15 stokjes in de ring.
Crochet 15 double crochets in the ring.
Trek de draad aan en haal hem naar boven, zo kun je meteen het uiteinde wegwerken. Eindig met een halve vaste in de 2e v van de eerste steek.
Pull the end to the top, so you can take the end along when crocheting. Finish off with a slip stitch in the 2nd chain of the first stitch.
Hecht een nieuwe kleur aan, de eerste vaste wordt gevormd door het aanhechten gevolgd door een losse, en haak nog 2 vasten.
Attach a new colour, the first single crochet is made by attaching the colour followed by a chain, and crochet 2 more single crochets.
In de volgende steek haak je (stokje, 2 lossen, stokje), dit vormt een hoek.
The next stitch will be a corner (double crochet, chain 2, double crochet).
Herhaal nog drie keer, eindig met een halve vaste in de eerste steek.
Repeat another 3 times, finish off with a slip stitch in the first stitch.
