Crocheted Tartan Plant Pot Cover - Gehaakte Geruite Plantenpothoes

A couple of years ago I made this tutorial for byClaire & Friends.
It seemed the link didn't work anymore, and I wanted to translate it into English anyway, so here is the revised version. I hope you like it!
If you would like the Dutch version, you can find it here:

This tutorial is for a pot with a diameter of 23 cm and hight 21 cm, but you can adjust it to a different size.
If you want to make a swatch: crochet 1 square with 2 stripes on one side and at the top. Now you can measure how many you need for your pot, and maybe use a different size hook if you want smaller or bigger squares, or when you're using a different size yarn. For some more tips, please scroll down to the remarks underneath the pattern.

What do you need:
I used hook size 6 (and size 3 for hiding the ends), 2 balls of byClaire Softmix for the main colour, 1 ball of Softmix as the secondary colour and 1 ball of byClaire Sparkle.

Used stitches:
ch = chain
slst = slip stitch
sc = single crochet
dc = double crochet

Pattern:
Start with the main colour, ch 84, join with a slst in the first ch to make a circle. Make sure the circle is not twisted.

Row 1
Ch 3 (= first dc + a ch), continue with (dc, ch) in every next stitch. End with a slst in the second ch of the starting dc.

Row 2
Again ch 3, followed by (skip one stitch, dc in next stitch) until you reach the beginning of the row. Slst in 2nd ch of first dc.

Row 3 till 16
Repeat row 2:
Row 3, 4, 7 till 10 and 13 till 16 in the main colour, row 5 and 11 in the secondary colour, and row 6 and 12 with Sparkle.

Now you're going to crochet the diagonal lines with the same colour scheme, 6 times (secondary colour, glitter, 4 times main colour).

Some remarks:
- Work in the same direction in every row.
- Pull the working thread from the inside to the outside.

- Crochet as loosely as possible. If you pull it too tight you will change the shape and size of your cover. If you find this hard to do, you can also change to a bigger size crochet hook.
- Crochet 1 chain in every 'block' or opening.
- Attach the thread with a slst, put your hook through the first opening and pull up a loop to crochet a ch. Put your hook into the next opening and crochet another ch. Repeat till you reach the bottom. Cut the thread and start in the next row.

Weave in the ends at the back side, by pulling them around the stitches. Use a smaller hook size, f.e. size 3. This proces goes farely quickly is my experience, but you could also use a darning needle. It will look like this:

To make the edges looking good as well I crocheted a row of (sc, 2 sc in the next stitch) at the top and bottom. I was playing yarn chicken, but it worked out fine.

You can adjust the size in different ways. I explained a little at the beginning of this blog, but there are more ways. You could crochet the cross lines more tightly, or add some more rows at the top and/or bottom, or you can adjust the ratio:
By accident I crocheted the pink plant pot cover with 5 times the main colour instead of 4, so it's perfect for a pot with a diameter of 26 to 28 cm.

If your cover has become too wide, you can weave in (transparent) elastic thread at the inside:

You could also turn it into a tube scarf instead... :-)
If it has become way to tight, sew the top part together, attach a pompom, et voilá, you have a hat!

The colour combinations I've used are:
No. 26 Jade with 32 Lime and 2172 Cream
No. 1 White with 23 Sea Green and 271 Violet
Nr. 8 Bright Pink with 35 Salmon and 371 Turquoise

I think it looks good together with the Mini Square Cover with the Train Track Join (you can find the tutorial for this join over here:

As always, I would love to hear from you if you make one of my designs. And if you want I can share it on Instagram (or Pinterest), please tag me @yarnandothertreasures or use the #tartanplantpotcover or #geruitepothoes so I can find it.

Kleine Halve Glitter Kerstbal - Little Half Glitter Bauble

  For English scroll down please!

Noppensteek zonder doorschijn - Bobble Stitch with no visible contrasting colours

Hi everyone, I think I've got another nice tutorial for you. When you crochet the bobble stitch, normally you would take along the contrasting colour while crocheting. The way I do it is a bit more work, but the advantage is that you don't see any colours shining through on a light underground (like the picture below), but especially that you can make all dots in a different colour!  Dus hoe doe ik dat? Ik hecht de nieuwe kleur aan met minimaal 5 cm draadeind, haak de noppensteek (welke dan ook, met stokjes, dubbele stokjes etc., of wat ik voor mij...
